This is where South Asian taste meets an eclectic (or electric) atmosphere. You won't find many Indian restaurants featuring a fully-equipped bar complete with everything from Jack Daniels to Chimay. For 12 years, Electric Lotus, on the corner of Vermont Blvd. and Franklin Ave., has provided the neighborhood of Los Feliz and chance to experience charming dishes such as the Lamb Bhuna or Chicken Coconut Curry, which is a known favorite even for a few neighborhood celebrities. For vegetarians the Channa Masala is trustworthy as well as the Shahi Paneer, decorated with raisins and nuts.
Their pride and joy is the Tandoori Chicken prepared in a big clay oven. The brave dish is brought out on a sizzling hot plate and the aromatic scent of herbs and spices immediately fills the room. And if noses and taste buds are too weak to resist, there are also a few closed booths for an intimate experience.
Manager Sunny Sanni says the atmosphere is supposed to give customers the experience of eating good Indian food, but not in India. Booths align the entrance of the restaurant for those who enjoy the California sunshine, and the bar provides solo customers with plenty of room to relax and take it all in.
Electric Lotus won't give you the cliché atmosphere of your typical restaurant. The trendy decor is definitely backed up by quality and flavor. So next time, while strolling down Vermont Blvd. in Los Feliz village, give a Electric Lotus a try, and those taste buds will say, namaste!
